>> a 19-year-old seattle resident was killed july 16th after police said he fired on officers who are in the bay view checking out muni fare evaders, harding was a person of interest in a seattle murder, investigators made a surprising aannouncement after getting ballistic test results. >> we believe the fatal wound was self inflicted. >> police believe harding shot himself in the head after he suffered a gunshot wound to the leg during the shootout with officers there is a thousand dollars reward, but police chief tells us they've not made a decision yet as to who will get the reward. >> and bay area passengers

stepped in to help the pilot. the brothers appeared to face charges against them. before take off, witnesses say they jumped the pilot and started beating him. when the plane landed, we heard the stories of how local passengers rushed in to help. witnesses say these brothers had been acting like they were drunk or drugged, and as they were being told to leave the plane at the gate in miami, passengers say the brothers turned on the pilot. >> the guy that was ill just walked up to the ka. and just went bam, and just slapped him hard. the captain was stunned and so was everybody on the plane. >> police say baez told the pilot when you fly to san juan, i will have you killed. according to the arrest affidavit, the pilot's vision was blurry from the punch. investigators say he possibly has permanent damage to his left eye. he continued to follow the men

off the plane to make sure they exited properly. inside of the airport, police say the men jumped the pilot. >> the captain had his whole side of the face just bruced and bloodied. they tried to ice it down. those two guys had him on the ground z they were beating the crap out of him. >> the passengers decided to get involved. >> about three, four of us went out there and tackled the guy, tackled them. i guess the pilot ended up with some contusions on his face. and so we just did what we needed to do to, help out. >> one man took pictures of the passengers holding down the suspects inside of the airport. witnesses say it took about 10 minutes before police came and arrested them. some of the 178 passengers on board are calling the men who held down the suspects heroes. but they take off the praise. >> i was just natural. so no big deal. and just, you know, just doing

my duty is all. >> the flight did make it here to sfo. but without the pilot, he is resting back in florida. the two men arrested face federal charges of assault and battery. >> amy, thank you very much. a northern california woman is facing some charges tonight. she was arrested at philadelphia international airport yesterday. and this rose yl vl resident is accused of threatening the flight crew and other passengers. police say she threatened to blow up the plane. there is no explannation yet. charges include making terror threats and disorderly conduct. >> one of the two men accused of killing a woman ask setting the body on fire appeared in a courtroom this morning. hector garcia was arraigned after being charged with murder. they are accused of killing to 1-year-old and dumping the body in a rockridge neighborhood before setting it on fire.

the mother was in court and spoke about the last day that she spent with her daughter. >> everything was normal. everything appeared normal. like i told you, we spent wednesday the 13th engineer perfect harmony. happy, together like mother and daughter without knowing it would be the last day i would see her alive. >> police say she appeared to have been beaten before the body was set ablaze but still do not know the motive for this attack. >> and some developing news. a driver stopped to help a woman she thought was vag vg a baby ended up getting kidnapped in marin county. however, novato police believe they have caught the man. and he flagged down the 62-year-old woman along highway 101 yelling a pregnant woman needed help but it was a trap. he jumped into the car and forced her to drive off. she pulled over and screamed for help miles down the road. he ran off and police caught him. >> and the woman who may help

put game show host alex trebek in jeopardy. the judge ordered her to stay 150 feet away from trebek and his wife. mires will appear in court monday. she has two previous convictions and this could be the third strike. the host says he ruptured his right achilles heel trying to chase her. >> and the debt ceiling debate swings from talk to action tonight. and there is a vote scheduled on speaker john boehner's plan. mark matthews is here with the latest on this. >> probably not a chance in the senate but now, the house is in recess. and it appears speaker does not have votes to get his debt ceiling measure passed. speaker of the house said his bill to raise the debt ceiling is not perfect. but it's fair. >> let's pass this bill and

end this crisis. >> the congressional budget office estimates boehner's plan could cut spending by $917 billion, and call for a vote for a constitutional balanced budget amendment. house democratic leader nancy pelosi. >> this will not pass because it has democratic votes. >> and today, this group of freshman republicans pledged their votes. >> we're here today to demonstrate our support for speaker boehner, which we believe is the right thing to do this senate vowed to take up the bill immediately but only to kill it. >> as soon as the house completes it's vote tonight, center will move to take up that message sent to us. it will be defeated. >> we need to get beyond, you know, voting on dead on arriveal measures that aren't going to be law when we have few days left to reach a

stepped in, rescuing two people. it was just startsing to turn back. neighbors heard a woman screaming two. guests of a resident were lying at the bottom of the pool. jeffrey bail, a high schoolteacher had to scale a fence to get goet them. >> i just scaled a fence. the mother of the girl says she did not know how to do cpr. i took over. win a minute she was coughing. then, we turned our attention to the man. a scary moment. >> no one knows what happened. the girl's mother and several others were in a nearby hot tub but had back turned to the pool. >> the girl was on the shoulders. he was giving a dolphin ride to the girl. and when i talked to the girl who's brought them in, she says he swims well but he's not an excellent swimmer. >> they were treated and released at valley medical center and are now at home. san jose fire officials says

there is a another hero, a resident who dived in and brought up two vicks. >> he just said i don't feel comfortable. i'm just very happy that my friend and his daughter are safe at home and that i was able to help them out. he said maybe in the next few days he'll feel comfortable talk together media. >> the victims don't want to be identified or interviewed. rescuers say instinct just kicked in. >> you don't know what to do. so you just let everything take over. i had training enough times and i felt it's second nature. >> and well, that kind of quick action and instinct did pay off. homeowners association says it's going to look into providing cpr classes as a safety measure for the future. >> and david, thank you very much. and the streets of oakland are

safer tonight thanks to generosity of a hometown corporation. clorox donated 50,000ses today the police department to buy 30 new lap tops for vehicles from motorcycles to squad cars. the mayor says it was a top request among the officers. >> police officers today use their notebooks to check on data, look at gps information and run identification checks on people. it's really, it's their number one tool. >> the city needs another half million dollars to offset the rest of the department's fleet. the mayor is hoping other local corporations will join in helping oakland to reach that goal. a fugitive from upstate new york who taunted police on his facebook page to catch me if you can? he's been caught. he was aested. the new york daily news ez u.s. marshals and nypd detectives tracked his hymn down to an apartment in

brooklyn monday night. he was sitting at his computer with a facebook page open, wanted on charges of domestic violence and harassing his ex-girlfriend. >> pg&e has been ordered to dig up a section of pipe part of a line that wlu up last year. california public utilities commission ordered as part of an investigation into that explosion. and this pipe segment was installed in 1948. but it's been inactive since mid 1950s. >> there is a 250 foot section part of the original line 132 project and then, it was removed from service when rerouting in 1956. for the development. >> the quality of the pipe and welds have come under scrutiny. the national transportation safety board investigators have found welds were bad. eight people died and 38 homes were destroyed in the explosion in september. >> and there is a federal

appeals court upheld a so called bubble law, preventing protesters from getting within eight feet after borgs clinics and ordered the city to revise it's policy of policing. the court found oakland made a mistake when it led supporters offer words of encouragement to women entering a clinic but banned an opponent trying to prevent patients from having an abortion. a measure that would have made male circumcisions illegal was stricken today from november ballot. a judge ruled state law barred municipalities from banning recognized medical procedures. people behind the ballot measure say they may appeal. >> the maker of extra strength tylenol is reducing its recommended doses listing the maximum dose for extra strength tylenol as six pills.

next year, daily recommendations for regular strength tylenol will be reduced. a panel called for sweeping reductions two years ago to prevent accidental overdoses of the active ingredient. >> and washington is going into the venture capitol business. the national science foundation using a $10 million grant to teach top scientists and engineers how to start a company. giving $50,000 to 100 teams per year. the curriculum will be modeled on a stanford engineering class. and steve blank taught in september. >> a surprise for one family in bass lake. surveillance cameras capturedded a mountain lion up their driveway. the family was inside and noticed a motion sensor

it's expected to remain that way throughout the morning. take a look at satellite picture from afternoon. the fog has been cling together coastline all afternoon long. and the fog that got into some of our bayside communities was slow to pull back. it has been a little bit cooler this afternoon in terms of highs. warming trend didn't quite materialize. and temperatures now 80s, 90s inland. 50s and 60s along the coast. foggy tonight z warmer inland tomorrow. and we're looking at mild to warm conditions for the weekend. there is a look at water vapor imagery. hot air mass continues to be impacking our weather and we're just on the area here with, this hot air mass upper level ridge, we're going to continue to see warm days inland as we feel affects of this large ridge that is well to the east of us. and we're going see some

moisture, circulating right into some of the sierra nevada locations heading into next couple days. because of this, we're expecting thunderstorms this weekend from lake tahoe down towards yosemite and las vegas could see possibility of thunderstorms. and scattered on saturday and sunday. so fur f.you're making plans for weekend keep this in mind. overnight tonight here in the bay area, fog along coast and around the bay. and temperatures into 50s except antioch. 60 degrees. taking a look at highs for friday. they're coming up just a little bit. away from the coastline. 83 degrees in san jess yeah. sunnivale, milpitas, 82 for you. 87 in los gatos. and goits tok a mild day around san mateo. 76 degrees, 80 in menlo park. low to mid-60s near the coastline. you'll see fog again hugging the coast. daily city, gray skies and 62 degrees, welcome to summer in

there is a draw matic story of survivor. a new york pilot crashed into lake heron tuesday night, treading water 18 hours. he shed his skpants shoes and tried to flag down boats as they passed by but nobody could hear the cries for help. he was able to flag down a boat after 18 hours. he says he just went into survival mode saying he was not ready to die. doctors say he's suffering from muscle exhaustion but is okay. >> and just blue unveiled a deal aimed at business
